About

Bloomingdale Township HighwayDid you know that 52% of all roads in Illinois, approximately 72,000 miles, are under Township maintenance? (This information is from Illinois Department of Transportation.) Bloomingdale Township Highway Department is working to keep our roads clear and safe in all unincorporated areas of the Township.

Our Highway Department maintains these roads for all to travel. Bob and his staff remove snow and ice from the roads, cut grass along the right-of-way’s in front of vacant property, maintain the drainage ditches, and maintain the road surface.

Our 102 lane miles of roads are similar to a good-sized town but much more spread out. To the east, Route 53. To the west, County Farm Road. To the north, Elgin O’Hare Expressway. To the south, St. Charles Road.

We work closely with DuPage County and Villages within the Township to secure the best possible price for bulk road salt. We also work with the County and eight other Townships to provide mutual aid assistance in times of special need (e.g. storm and flood recovery). For municipal residents, 50% of the road and bridge taxes levied by the Township Highway Department are paid directly to your respective municipalities (Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Itasca, Lombard and Roselle) for their use on their local road maintenance.

The Highway Department, also, maintains and installs traffic control and street signs, and help protect the wetlands. All this is accomplished with eight men in the field and Linda in the office to answer questions or help with any problems.

If you have any questions or concerns give us a call us at 630-529-5221.
